It’s that time of the year again. February is the Road Rage month for the Sigma Betans. Now on it’s 8th year, the transport show is one of the most anticipated activities during UPLB’s February Fair.

In the context of the Philippine society, we associate cars, motorbikes, hoppers as toys for the big boys. But for 8 consecutive years now, the UP Sigma Beta Sorority is living proof that we stand out among the rest for we have, and still continue to initiate original activities such as the Road Rage Series which educate motorists, entertain spectators, and show that Sigma Betans are trained to be competitive, assertive, and flexible.

The Road Rage Series was conceptualized on February, 2002. The UP Sigma Beta Sorority is the pioneer of such activity in Los Baños. For its first 3 years, it only catered to customized cars. But last 2005, the show opened to 2-wheeler vehicles such as motorcycles and scooters. This year, we are adding hoppers to our list of competitors. Participants usually come from the Southern Luzon area and some parts of Manila.

Annually, numerous entries flock within the parameters of the SU Parking lot showing off their wheels and vying for the grand prize. This attracts an average of 500-700 spectators per show, both young and old.

Last year, the 7th Road Rage was held at the SU Parking Lot, University of the Philippines, Los Baños. It was handled by Katrina Umandap. What a success! All the participants, expectators, and even the Sigma Betans had fun during the show. Over 120 cars and 40 motors participated on the said event. The judges can hardly choose the winners of each category. Some of them were Bryan Revilla, Vice Mayor Martin Illagan of San Pablo City, Mr. John Hernandez of Good Year Philippines, and Mr. Norman Agojo of Normanworks. We had DB Sport Loudmatch, Good Year, Normanworks Custom Paint Shop, Meguiars, Honda Cars, Topwheels Motorlandia, Home Cable Laguna, Toyz Magazine, Spotlight TV, Samba, Yamaha, Citibike Suzuki, Red Gloves Boxing Club, Splash Mountain, Bonitos, Infinite, Boston Café, Corner Café and Snacks, Ministop, Fern-C, Nature Spring and Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. as the sponsors of the event.

Sis Niña Acasio for USC Chairperson

// February 25th, 2009 // 9 Comments » // News, UP Diliman

The UP Sigma Beta Sorority, as the first and the oldest women organization in UP and in the country, prides itself for having the tradition of honing its members to the best of their abilities and to their fullest potentials. The Sorority aims at producing women who can be ahead of their times – women who could lead and women who could serve.

Niña has proven her leadership not only in the sorority but in the University as well. Her track record of service is a clear picture of how passionate and dedicated a leader Niña is. A student leader since high school, Niña continued her passion to lead and to serve during her college years. She was an Engineering Representative to the USC and a University Student Council Councilor, garnering the most number of votes for USC Councilor in the history of the USC Elections.

Within the sorority, Niña competently performed her responsibilities in the four different positions that she held – Sister Property Custodian, Assistant Sister Keeper of the Scroll, Idyllic Sister of Graces and the position she presently holds, Most Idyllic Sister.

Niña has continually proven that she has the ability and the passion to serve. She is the personification of an idyllic sister who leads and serves with a burning passion in her heart.

It is with great pride and honor that the UP Sigma Beta Sorority supports the candidacy of its Most Idyllic Sister (UP Diliman 2008-2009) NIÑA ACASIO for USC Chairperson.

That Nina has achieved a great deal as a student leader over the years cannot be gainsaid (see below). But here are some things you probably didn’t know about Nina Acasio…
